Carrick on Suir U-15 Spring Program 2011

With the ninth week approaching of the ten week program, time has just flown. We started on the basics namely: Grip, aim, stance and posture and each week I have been very impressed with the level of interest and commitment of the juniors. This week will be bunker play along with our weekly short game competition. A huge thank you to Ranall Norris and Michael Hearn for their continued support and interest in the juniors.

2011 Tramore Golf Club Senior Cup Team

It is a particular honour for me to be asked to coach the Tramore Senior Cup and Barton shield teams.Tramore’s teams have been one of the most successful in Irish club history so to work with them is very exciting. Coaching starts this Thursday evening and will hopefully continue right to the middle of September!

2011 Waterford Sports Partnership Program

Were approaching the eight week of the ten week Waterford Sports Partnership “special needs” program and it has been a great success.
A particular thanks to the participants, Oscar Fitzgerald, Paddy O Neill, Eoin Fitzgerald and Willie John Maringa for their enthusisasm and interest in the program.
Next week we will be taking it to the golf course at Williamstown which should be great fun.Really looking forward to that. Many thanks to Katie Kelly of Waterford Sports Partnership for all her help in organising the event.
Thanks to Oscar for bringing the chocolates last week and Paddy for dishing them out!

2011 Tramore Golf Club Junior Program

I am thrilled to announce that I have been approached by the  committee for the junior section of Tramore Golf Club to coach a select group of junior players. This will be starting in early January ’11.

This is a particular joy for me as Tramore Golf Club is my home club and its where I started to play golf. I remember going to the Late Christy Butler (the PGA Professional at the time), for golf lessons. he was a true character and a  man whoses passion for golf I will always remember ( I sill have his instructional video from 1987!).

I played at every level for Tramore Golf Club and the teams I was so lucky to be part of had many successes winning many Munster Titles. I was very lucky to be part of the Irish Schools All-Ireland Gold winnning team aswell as the Bronze medal for the Fred Daly Trophy the same year, 1995.

With these memories in mind, I am very passionate and committed to returning the Tramore Golf Club Junior section to those winning days. There is a pool of talent at the club and I am very excited about 2011 when we begin work.

I want to thank Danny Lenihan, John Mitchell and Barry Kearns for this opportunity and I am very confident that success is not far away.

Williamstown Golf Club Junior Program

We are now in the 4th week of the junior program for Williamstown Golf Club. Much of what we have been doing to this point is working on the basics of grip, aim, stance and posture. Every week I emphasise the importance of the short game especially from distances of 120 yards and in. For these shots especially, it is imperative that the arms and the body be very much connected. This increases accuracy and distance control and is vital for those 3rd shots to par 5′s and those “up and downs” on par 4′s.

Its great to see the junior’s enthusiasm, despite some of the dreadful weather we have experienced.  Even in our 4th week, the improvement is visible and the competitions we have at the end of our sessions have confirmed this.

I must pay a particular thanks to the juniors  and also Bobby Mulhane, the junior officer of Williamstown Golf Club for helping me get this program off the ground. I know also the junior members are very grateful to him for his constant support.

Looking forward to 2011!!!
