Carrick on Suir Munster GUI Junior Program

I am delighted to say that the first session of the new Munster Branch (GUI) program in Carrick Golf club took place yesterday morning (Tuesday 8/6/10). There was a huge turnout of juniors along with the Junior Officer, Kevin Barry, Vice Captain Robert Barry and a number of members also.
Yesterday’s session was all about putting and the vital part it plays in golf. Over 40% of the game is used with this club and yet it is one area that is rarely practiced. My theory on this is because usually practicing putting is boring and growing up playing the game, I would have agreed.
Yesterday was all about making putting practice fun and consequently hugely effective.
Some of the drills I used are drills performed by the Worlds best players (The clock face drill to name one) and certainly by the end of the session, the juniors agreed that these drills made putting practice a more enjoyable experience. They agreed they were now more confident, focused and relaxed when it came to putting.
The second session takes place next Tuesday (15/6/10). The first group will be from 10 – 11.15, the second from 11.15 – 12.30 and the last from 12.30 to 1.45.
I have to particularly thank Kevin Barry for all his help. We have been arranging this for some months now and I greatly appreciate his help.
